Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Since COTP only takes babies, what happens to the babies when they get older?
A: Each baby has it's own discharge plan depending on that child's circumstances when we received it.
Some might go back to their biological family when they become healthy, some might be adopted out.
Q: Does COTP take in babies that are HIV positive?
A: Yes, we do. Most of the babies that we have received who were HIV positive, revert to HIV negative
by the time they are 1 year old. (and it's permanent).
Q: Where do these babies come from?
A: Missionaries from all backgrounds in the area refer these families and children to us. Our Haitian
staff and families of other children already in our care also refer babies to us. We then assess the baby's
health and the family situation and decide if it's better to help them in their home or if the child requires
full time care at our facility.
Q: Is COTP an orphanage?
A: We are not an orphanage in the technical term. We are an infant care center or creche as it is called
in Haiti. It is a transition home providing 24 hour care for infants in need until they can be returned to
their biological family or, if that's not possible, adopted into the U.S., Canada or Europe.
Q: What is the process to adopt a child from COTP?
A: The best answers can be found on our adoption
page.
Q: How many staff do you have?
A: COTP has approx. 40 to 45 Haitians working at our facility. This includes fulltime, parttime, laundry
ladies, weekend and night staff. They usually work 12 hours shifts with up to 16 staff at one time.
They are all paid employees. They receive all their meals here while they are working. The American and
Canadian long term and short term volunteers are not paid and raise their own support.
Q: What do you need the most?
A: Our biggest need to care for all these babies is monetary. We are also in the process of building a new
facility to better care for them. If you wish to send items, please check out need list and the address there
to send these things to. All checks can be sent to Children of the Promise, Box 97, Prinsburg, MN 56281.
Your gift is tax deductable in the U.S.
Q: How many nannies do you have to a baby?
A: That depends on the age of the infants, their physical
condition when we receive them, and their developmental needs
